1 John 3:4 (NLT) – “Everyone who sins is BREAKING God’s Law. For ALL sin is CONTRARY to the Law of God.” Contrary means exact opposite. Anything that is done that is the exact opposite of God’s Law is sin.

Righteousness:

Matthew 5:5 (NIV) – “Blessed re they who hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” Righteousness is the quality of being right in the eyes of God. It is based on the standards of God.
